Training and Support
Staff Language and Culture Services, a unit of Organizational Effectiveness (OE), provides language instruction, cultural training, and communications support to:
- University of Iowa employees who are still learning English, and
- University of Iowa employees who frequently work with people who are still learning English.
Corinne Stanley is the Facilitator of Staff Language and Culture Services.
English Language Instruction for Staff
English language instruction is free to UI employees. The purpose of the instruction is to help employees facilitate improved communication in the workplace.
English Conversation Groups meet Monday from 12:00 - 1:00 pm in 3189 Med Labs and Tuesday from 12:30 - 1:30 pm in the Melrose Conference Center, Room 6.
Spanish Language Instruction for Staff
Spanish instruction is free to UI employees. The purpose of the instruction is to facilitate with engagement with Spanish speakers in the workplace, and to offer training helpful for professional advancement.
Spanish Conversation Group meets every Thursday from 12:15 to 1:15 pm in the Melrose Conference Center, Room 3. Spanish I and II meet Wednesdays in the University Services Building.
Cultural Assistance and Insights for Work Groups or Individuals
Targeted Presentations, Consultations, Research: Staff Language and Culture Services offers assistance in resolving and avoiding misunderstandings in multi-lingual, multi-cultural work areas, deliver informational presentations, and consult on particular workplace situations. We also prepare handouts and lists of resources.
