2019 Excellence Badge

The Rising to the Challenge Award is presented each year to a University of Iowa business officer who successfully navigated through an important and significant university event which results in a major change and challenge. The challenge event was the development and implementation of the university’s budget model. This year’s award will recognize Cathy Hagen, Brenda Ulin, and Kris Yows. They, along with many administrative staff members, rose up to the challenge as the university developed and implemented its new budget model. This high-priority accelerated project demanded creative thinking, flexibility, and a team effort.

This project included the development of business intelligence tools to assist collegiate business officers with analyzing and forecasting tuition revenues, establishing processes and metrics for allocating central service unit expenses to collegiate units, and operationalizing budget model policies and formulas.

Congratulations to Hagen, Ulin and Yows on earning the 2019 Rising to the Challenge Award and for their significant contributions in the successful implementation of this initiative.
