The Supervisor Training@Iowa project aims to ensure University of Iowa supervisors meet training standards by December 2020.
Any administrative staff and faculty in a regular appointment who supervise UI faculty or staff may be required to complete the new training. Affected supervisors will be notified of their requirement and reminded prior to the deadline. An estimated 3,000 supervisors will be eligible.
Training will be available to additional supervisors in later phases.
Respecting Current Skill Levels
Individual supervisors may satisfy training requirements if they’ve received specific previous supervisory training or if they demonstrate knowledge and skills by testing.
Training will be managed using the university’s Compliances and Qualifications system accessible through Employee Self Service. Training developers will map the new curriculum to existing programs in My Training to award credits for previously completed training.
In addition, Liz Hollingworth, professor of education and director of the Center for Evaluation and Assessment, is helping University Human Resources develop assessments for various training modules. Individuals can demonstrate their knowledge by completing tests based on the new curriculum.
