Retiree Informational Session Overview and RSVP

Old Capitol Building
Old Capitol Building

The University Benefits Office will be hosting a number of informational sessions to help you better understand your retiree health benefit options. We know there are many options for health insurance and our goal is to provide information, including information about other plans, that will guide you in making an informed decision in regard to your health coverage for 2019 and beyond.

General Educational Sessions:

Two general education sessions presented by Health Alliance will be held. These sessions will focus on healthy aging and Medicare basics and introduce options like Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and prescription drug plans. These two sessions will not include specific information regarding University of Iowa retiree health plan options for 2019.

Medicare Supplement vs Medicare Advantage
Tuesday, September 11, 2018
10:30 am - 11:30 am

What to Expect:

Healthy Aging - An estimated 92 percent of aging adults have at least one chronic disease, and it's estimated that 75 percent of all money spent on health care each year goes toward treating chronic disease. How can all of us keep our mind and bodies active, cut down our risk for chronic disease, save money and live longer, fuller lives?

Medicare Supplement vs Medicare Advantage - This course will educate audiences on the basic principles of Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage. Participants will learn what these programs are, how they are similar, how they differ, and pros and cons of signing up for one or the other.

Informational Sessions:

Several informational sessions will be hosted by the University Benefits Office with guest speakers from Wellmark BCBS, Health Alliance and the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP). All sessions will follow the same agenda, beginning with a large group session focusing on Medicare, UiChoice, Health Alliance Medicare Advantage plans and other health coverage options available to retirees. Following the large group session, University Benefits will host an informational fair with representatives available to provide information and answer questions.
