UI Health Insurance Plans Coverage Update

With the COVID outbreak which started earlier this year, our health plans for faculty, staff, retirees and students, provided expanded coverage which was COVID related. Listed below are the services impacted and the status of ongoing COVID-19 coverages.

    1. In-network, inpatient treatment of COVID-19. The waiver of members' cost-share (copay, coinsurance and deductible) for inpatient treatment of COVID-19 with an in-network provider will be extended through December 31, 2020.
    2. COVID-19 tests and related services. Members have no cost-share for appropriate testing and related services to diagnose or detect COVID-19. This is required by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and remains in place as long as we are in a public health emergency, as declared by the federal government.

As time has progressed, even though the pandemic still exists, health care providers have made adjustments and reopened their offices, and we are confident in our local health care systems' ability to handle the current level of care needed for our members. The following temporary health plan cost-share waivers related to the pandemic will expire on Aug. 31, 2020.

    1. No-cost virtual visits. Virtual visit coverage will return to normal plan provisions effective Sep. 1, 2020. Please refer to your coverage manual for plan details.
    2. Extend accidental dental benefits. Coverage period limitations related to accidental dental injury will return to standard benefits effective Sep. 1, 2020. Please refer to your coverage manual for plan details.
