Types of Student Positions

Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) Support

The student will provide program support for the CDC's National Diabetes Prevention Program, a yearlong lifestyle change program offered to eligible UI faculty and staff. This position is a great fit for those wanting to gain more experience in health coaching, communication, and wellness program management. 

Students will assist the Diabetes Prevention Program Lifestyle Coach with program delivery including preparing weekly materials, attending all program classes, leading session activities, promoting participant engagement, performing data collection and program evaluation. The intern will also work on a capstone projects to contribute to overall DPP program goals and needs. Examples of past projects include:

  • Create marketing videos, participant testimonial videos, and other marketing materials.
  • Complete a literature review of current research on National DPP delivery and outcomes and present findings and recommendations to liveWELL team.
  • Plan, develop, and facilitate group health coaching discussions.
  • Develop and implement participant engagement activities such as rewards and recognition, activities, games, or challenges in between DPP sessions.

liveWELL Outreach and Engagement Programs Support

The student has two primary areas of responsibility: supporting liveWELL’s Week of Wellness events and Wellness Ambassador network. For Weeks of Wellness, the student will help support organization/department wellness teams in developing, promoting and delivering a “Week of Wellness." Duties include developing email communications, flyers, virtual and onsite programming and events, and tracking outcomes and attendance. For our Wellness Ambassador network, the student will help prepare materials and presentations for monthly Wellness Ambassador training calls and manage the Wellness Ambassador ICON site.
