How to Volunteer as a Recruitment Ambassador

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a current or former Professional and Scientific or Merit staff in good standing
  • Have the approval of the immediate supervisor to participate in the program
  • Have a minimum of three years at the university, of which at least two years are employment experience
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge of and/or interest in the university‚Äôs history, programs, services and resources
  • Exhibit excellent communication, interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Display the ability to create positive rapport with prospective employees

How to Apply

  • Applicants may request an application form from the University of Iowa Recruitment Ambassadors Coordinator or complete the Recruitment Ambassador Application
  • Faculty or staff members may also nominate colleagues by submitting a letter of nomination to the Recruitment Ambassadors Coordinator
  • Applicants submit one to two letters of recommendation
  • The Recruitment Ambassadors Coordinator will follow-up with all applicants


All Recruitment Ambassadors will attend training sessions addressing the following skills and topics:

  • Communication and public speaking skills
  • Confidentiality
  • Interacting with people from diverse racial/ethnic backgrounds
  • Recruitment strategies
  • Search and screen policies and procedures
  • Equal employment opportunity and affirmative action
  • Campus programs, services and resources
  • Frequently asked questions
  • Referrals to appropriate university and/or community resources
