November 2016: Began work during Phase 1

Feburary 2017: Initiated Phase 2 committees focused on decision-making frameworks and a regional roundtable for HR leaders

July 2017: Completed initial projects with close of Phase 1

Status as of December 2017: Continues to advise on various Talent@Iowa projects, with particular emphasis on talent acquisition

Charge 

The Governance Council provides oversight and guidance to ensure successful implementation of Talent@Iowa Task Force recommendations. Responsibilities include: 

  • Representing stakeholder interests 
  • Providing suggestions regarding Talent@Iowa initiatives 
  • Enhancing communications about Talent@Iowa across campus 
  • Bringing feedback to the Governance Council 
  • Promoting transparency while maintaining confidentiality around sensitive issues 

Targeted task force recommendations 

  • Create a decision-making framework: Balance risk tolerance and decision-making authority. Identify categories of local, low-to-moderate-risk decision that improve efficiency, and empower distributed HR leaders to make those decisions. 
  • Establish an HR roundtable: Develop a forum for sharing ideas and strategies to enhance the role of HR in high-performing organizations. Enlist campus leaders and colleagues in shaping HR and compliance strategy. Engage deans and associate deans around faculty HR issues, tap faculty expertise in HR and related fields, invite external experts, and build professional networks.
