Managing Stress and Behavioral Health

Included in this section are on-campus and online stress management outlets, alcohol and substance use resources, sleep information, and grief and loss support. If you or a family member are going through challenging times in any of these areas, free resources are available to you.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

EAP provides counseling, consultation, and educational services designed to enhance the health, performance, and well-being of individuals and their families. This confidential service is provided by licensed counselors at no cost to University of Iowa employees or family members. For assistance email EAP or call 319-335-2085. 

EAP can assist you with health and well-being related issues including:

liveWELL Health Coach Service

liveWELL offers a one-on-one Health Coach Service free for faculty and staff. Health coaching may focus on stress-related goals and activities to help you relax. Referrals to the Employee Assistance Program and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction are provided as appropriate, along with other referral options to suit your needs. Learning and Development

Learning and Development provides a variety of online and in-person classes and resources for faculty and staff, including stress management. For assistance email or call 319-335-2687.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Through the practice of mindfulness meditation, you can live a full life with greater balance and ease, even amidst the busyness of daily living or the challenges presented by physical or mental health limitations. For assistance c email or call 319-384-5089.

Women's Resource and Action Center (WRAC)

WRAC provides counseling services and support groups to university students, faculty, staff, and the Iowa City community. For assistance call 319-335-1486.  

Chemical Dependency Services

University of Iowa Health Care provides outpatient treatment programs for alcohol and drug abuse. Trained staff work through both individual and group counseling sessions. In addition, OWI evaluations are provided. For assistance call 319-384-8765.
