Students from the UI College of Pharmacy and American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA- ASP) are offering free blood pressure and blood glucose screenings in November and December to all UI faculty, staff, and students. Regular preventative health screenings can help lower your risk for chronic health conditions.

  • Thursday November 11, 2021, from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Campus Recreation and Wellness Center – Rooms 1A/1B
  • Thursday November 18, 2021, from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. – Campus Recreation and Wellness Center – Rooms 1A/1B
  • Thursday December 2, 2021, from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. – College of Pharmacy Building – 110 Active Learning Center Lobby.

Blood Pressure Screenings

Screenings for hypertension are recommended for adults 18 years or older. Screenings for adults 40 years or older or adults with increased risk for hypertension are recommended at least once per year (U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, 2021).

How do I prepare for my blood pressure screening?

  • Do not eat or drink anything 30 minutes prior to your blood pressure screening.
  • Empty your bladder (CDC, 2021).

Blood Glucose Screenings

Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes screenings are recommended for nonpregnant adults aged 35-70 who have overweight or obesity and no symptoms of diabetes (U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, 2021).
