Long-term care insurance is a voluntary benefit available to eligible University of Iowa employees and their eligible family members.

Long-term care insurance covers expenses for long term care services received at home, in the community or in a nursing facility.

  • Neither health nor disability insurance will cover this kind of care.
  • Relying on government programs may not be a viable solution.
  • Without insurance, the costs of these services may have to come out of your savings or income.

Genworth Life Insurance Company is the new University of Iowa long-term care insurance carrier.

John Hancock was our previous carrier, and they will no longer accept new applications from our faculty and staff. If you have coverage with them, you may request information on that coverage at 888-999-2072, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

As of 2018, John Hancock no longer supports payroll deductions for long-term care insurance plan premiums. This means an employee who is participating in this insurance will need to pay John Hancock directly for their coverage. This change does not have any impact to your coverage or benefit levels. If you were participating as of November 2017, you should have received a letter to your home regarding the new change along with an ACH form to begin your direct bill. More information regarding this change can be found on John Hancock's website.

If you have more questions or did not receive the letter from John Hancock, please call their customer service number at 1-888-321-4582 or send an email to GLTCBilling@jhancock.com
