Staff hired from another State of Iowa agency to the University of Iowa will retain their original hire date if there is verification of UI employment at time of termination. Merit staff keep their seniority date if they complete their last work period with a State of Iowa agency and start UI employment at the beginning of the next work period.
For SEIU contract staff, a new seniority date will be established based on the UI hire date, considering breaks in service due to relocation.
To facilitate, Human Resources at the previous State of Iowa agency should send a letter to the UI Director of University Benefits, including the seniority date at termination and any desired transfer of vacation or sick leave balances.
