A flexible schedule changes when work is performed. It may adjust regular start and stop times or use another approved schedule structure. The arrangement must continue to support job responsibilities, service delivery, coverage, and unit needs.

Is a flexible schedule the right fit?

A proposed schedule should be evaluated based on the functions of the position and the unit's ability to maintain or enhance service. The supervisor and employee should also consider coverage, collaboration, meetings, deadlines, and any timekeeping requirements.

Considerations before requesting a flexible schedule

  • Proposed workdays and start and stop times
  • Start date, and, if applicable, end date
  • Coverage for customers, students, patients, visitors, employees, or other stakeholders
  • Availability for meetings and team collaboration
  • Effect on timekeeping, breaks, overtime, or leave use
  • Technology or workspace needs

How to request a flexible schedule

  • Discuss the proposed schedule with your supervisor
  • Agree on schedule details and dates to be documented
  • Open the Work Arrangement application in Employee Self-Service
  • Select the flexible schedule option and describe the proposed schedule
  • Submit the request for supervisor review
