The University of Iowa has expanded its use of E-Verify, a federal system that helps confirm employment eligibility.
While the university previously used E-Verify in limited situations, it will now be used for all new employees. This update follows an Oct. 8 executive order from Gov. Kim Reynolds requiring all state government agencies to use federal verification systems to confirm the employment eligibility of state workers.
E-Verify works by comparing an employee's Form I-9 with records from the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration.
As part of using E-Verify, the UI will:
- Display notice of E-Verify participation in employee-facing spaces
- Complete E-Verify training
- Resolve any discrepancies between an employee's Form I-9 and government records that come up during the E-Verify process
Human Resources professionals and I-9 users across campus have completed the necessary updates, and training resources are available to support them as they follow the new process.
