The University of Iowa provides a centralized animal care program through the Office of Animal Resources (OAR), which reports to the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. The program includes animal housing facilities in the Carver College of Medicine, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and College of Public Health, with other affiliated sites.
The Office of Animal Resources provides expertise, care, and resources necessary for the maintenance of research animals. Our department's mission is preservation of the university's animal research privilege and maintenance of a quality animal care and use program.
Visitors will see how our staff care for animals on campus with daily expectations for health and welfare-focused care. Facilities are vast with many moving parts, and we are excited for visitors to see the level of care and pride our staff give to the animals on campus to aid in research that can have worldwide impacts in the bio-medical fields.
