The University of Iowa has been named one of the top employers in Iowa by Forbes magazine, earning a spot on the 2025 America's Best Employers by State list. Ranked in the top 20 organizations in Iowa, the institution's recognition reflects its strong commitment to employee satisfaction, workplace culture, and professional development.

The UI ranked No. 17, up one spot from last year's ranking of No. 18.

"The University of Iowa's collaborative environment, commitment to excellence, and strong workplace culture make our institution a first-choice destination," says Cheryl Reardon, chief human resources officer and associate vice president. "This ranking reaffirms our commitment to creating a supportive, people-centered environment where faculty, staff, and students can thrive personally and professionally."

Compiled in partnership with market research firm Statista, the Forbes list is based on surveys of more than 160,000 employees across the U.S. working for companies with at least 500 employees. Participants rated their employers on criteria such as working conditions, compensation, and opportunities for advancement.

This recognition places the University of Iowa among the state's most respected employers, including Hormel Foods, Nationwide Mutual Insurance, Principal Financial Group, and Pella.

UI Health Care was also recognized among the top 20 organizations in Iowa.
