Student Insurance Eligibility

To be eligible for student health insurance, you must:

Piece of paper with a checkmark
  1. be a degree-seeking student AND
  2. be registered for five or more credit hours each semester (only applies to undergraduate students)

Student insurance open enrollment periods by semester:

Fall: Aug. 01 - Sep. 09, Spring: Jan. 01 - Feb. 09, Summer: May 01 - Jun.09

Proof of Coverage Forms

All international and health science students must submit a proof of coverage form if they are already covered under another health insurance policy and do not want to enroll in UI student insurance.

To complete your Proof of Coverage form, please log in to MyUI and visit the "Student Information" section, "+ More" button, and under "Student Life Management," select the "Student Insurance" link.

Health and Dental Insurance Plans

SHIP

The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is a Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan, which provides coverage for preventive care, hospitalization, surgery, maternity, well-baby/well-child care, emergency care for accidents or illness, and medically necessary physician care, prescription drugs, and mental health. 

Providers: You may see any provider you wish.

Student Dental Plan

All students may receive coverage through the Student Dental Plan, a 3 tier provider network within Delta Dental of Iowa. Covered services include checkups, teeth cleaning, cavity repair, tooth extractions, endodontic services, periodontal services, and more.

Providers: Care can be obtained from any provider.
