The Staff Appreciation Grant program is an opportunity for groups seeking funding for appreciation and recognition efforts in their specific area.

Applications may be granted:

  • To groups seeking funding for appreciation/recognition efforts in their specific area. (Please note: if you are seeking funding for a campus-wide or Shared Governance event, visit the Staff Council website)
  • For use in the current fiscal year.
  • Only one time per area per fiscal year.
  • $10 per employee, up to $300 (max).
  • First qualified are first served; funding is limited.
  • Year-round until funding is exhausted.

Process

Please collect the following information prior to completing the online application below:

  • The MFK to transfer the funds into (you may need to ask your Business Officer).
  • Your HR Representative and name of the person authorized to approve financial transactions within your department.
  • A detailed description of how the application funds will be used.

Once your application completes the workflow routing, you will be notified within 20 working days regarding the status of your request.

For the upcoming application cycle, we aim to improve wait times and the applicant experience. To achieve this, the application is scheduled to open Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024. This allows us to approve and transfer funds once our grant is fully funded. It also provides additional time for departments to plan recognition efforts and submit applications. 

Recognition Event Ideas

  • Local and state parks
  • Golf/Mini golf
  • Laser Tag
  • Game night/Escape rooms
  • Cooking/drink mixing classes
  • Picnics
  • Dinner events/Happy Hour
  • Speaker
  • Sporting events within Iowa (i.e. Kernels, Xtreme Arena)
  • Movie theater / movie nights
  • Organized group excursions
  • Fitness challenges offered outside of the University of Iowa as a part of wellness or campus recreation.

Events in this list will NOT be approved for a Staff Appreciation Grant. 

  • Open water sports (jet skis, boating, etc...)
  • Hatchet throwing
  • Paintball
  • Bungee jumping
  • Sky diving
  • Mountaineering
  • Paragliding
  • Scuba Diving
  • Professional Sports Events – NBA, MLB, NFL, etc.
