Tami Diebel, an Assistant Director at UI College of Law, has shown true determination and resilience in her health journey. With a passion for promoting a healthy lifestyle, Tami had always been aware of the importance of staying fit and eating healthy. However, like many of us, the COVID pandemic had taken its toll on her motivation and energy levels, leading her to become complacent and sad.

Recognizing the need for a change, Tami decided to try the one-on-one health coaching service offered by the liveWELL program for UI employees. She knew she needed to be healthier but did not know where to start and working with a health coach seemed like a good first step. Carla Melby, her coach, helped her focus on small steps she could take to make a significant lifestyle change. Tami started carrying a water bottle, organizing her workout clothes, and prepping veggies after grocery shopping to make them easier to grab and cook for dinner. As she continued to work on her goals, Tami began meal prepping, bringing leftovers for lunch, tracking steps, and did a walking challenge with her sister.

Through consistent effort and determination, Tami has significantly improved her cholesterol and lost about 18 pounds since the beginning of 2023, which has made a significant impact on her overall health and well-being. Tami says she now feels more comfortable in her skin, enjoys travelling, and is happier knowing that she is making progress towards a healthier lifestyle.

Tami's story shows that even when faced with challenges like the COVID pandemic, it is possible to take control of one's health by taking small steps towards a healthier lifestyle. Seeking help from a health coach can be a great way to get started, and even the smallest ideas can make all the difference.

Tami says, “Even if you are not quite ready to hit the gym, taking the first step to meet with a health coach can make a difference! Stop putting it off and make an appointment now. You never know what small idea they may have for you that could adjust your behaviors and thoughts enough to kick-start your motivation!”
