Transfer
Complete a transfer transaction whenever a current University of Iowa employee, whether faculty, staff, or student, is assuming a University position other than his/her current one, and no break in service will occur between the last date in the current position and the first date in the new position. All applicable information can be entered on the transfer, including a change in position number. Effecting the change in position through the transfer form is important in order to maintain benefits as the employee moves from one position or status to another.
Exceptions include:
- Transfers are not allowed to or from a biweekly student position. This move is accomplished with a termination and new appointment, rather than a transfer.
- Transfers are not allowed for Merit positions moving to any biweekly position or any biweekly position to a Merit position.
- When moving a faculty member to emeritus status, please see Emeritus Faculty status for information on processing emeritus appointments.
- Important Transfer vs New Appointment Form Information
When moving an employee to or from a Short Term (Paygroup 3) appointment, do not use a Transfer form. Create a separate appointment in any of the following categories as appropriate:- Short Term
- Biweekly
- Fiscal or Academic
Questions related to faculty appointments should be directed to provost-office@uiowa.edu
Contact hr-transaction@uiowa.edu with questions about all other staff types.
Using the Transfer form and Adjunct Support form to move from Fellowship Appointment F*52, Post-Doctoral Appointment FP02, or PG 9 Complimentary Appointment to a paid position, like PG A, B, 7, 8, 1, 3 has an impact on the Employment Eligibility Form I-9. Please review I-9 status; you may need to complete a new form.
Termination
Complete a termination transaction whenever a University of Iowa employee, whether faculty, staff, or student, is either terminating from the University entirely or terminating from one of multiple positions. View more information about the Employee Exit Process.
