UISelect is tailored for benefit-eligible employees and retirees living in Iowa who seek high-quality coverage and want more control over their healthcare spending. Members will enjoy lower monthly premiums but pay higher out-of-pocket costs when using medical services.

UISelect Plan Documents

The coverage manual is an extensive document that sets forth the rights of the plan's participants and beneficiaries and guides the university in making decisions and executing its responsibilities.

UISelect Plan Highlights

  • You must live in Iowa to enroll in this plan
  • Lower premiums, higher out-of-pocket costs when the plan is used
  • Only Level 1 and Level 2 providers are covered, meaning the plan only covers medical providers in Iowa
  • Coverage outside of Iowa is not available except in emergencies or with Doctor on Demand
  • Guest memberships are available for dependent children attending college, long-term travelers, and families living apart.
  • 3-tier prescription drug benefit with free generics

Costs

The University covers the total cost of employee-only and double spouse family coverage for the UISelect health plan premiums and 80% of the coverage cost for the other family status options: employee and spouse, employee and child(ren), and employee and family.

Providers

UISelect only covers Level 1 and 2 providers. If you travel out of state, only emergency care and care from Doctor on Demand are covered.

Please note that you do not need to pick a plan level before receiving care at a provider; however, the lower the provider level, the lower the cost.

Prescriptions

UISelect has a three-tier prescription drug benefit that uses the BlueRx Value Plus formulary through Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield.

The lower the tier of your prescription, the lower the cost. Additionally, UISelect offers free generic drugs to plan members.
