Health Insurance Plans Offered
Both of our student health insurance plans are administered by Wellmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Iowa. Any student may sign up for the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), but only Health Science majors and graduates may enroll in UIGRADCare. Please review the student insurance eligibility in the next section before you plan to enroll.
SHIP
The student health insurance plan (SHIP) is a high-quality student medical plan with coverage in and outside Iowa.
Eligible Student Groups:
- Any student who meets the required student insurance eligibility rules
UIGRADCare
The UIGRADCare plan is a comprehensive health program from providers within the UI Health Care network and/or Student Health.
Eligible Student groups:
- Health Science Students
- Graduate Students
Are you eligible?
For a student to be eligible to enroll in the university health insurance:
- they MUST be a degree-seeking student AND
- be registered for 5 or more credit hours each semester (undergrad students only).
ALL undergrad and international students MUST have health insurance, either their own plan through another carrier that meets the minimum requirements or enrolls in one of the UI student plans.
