Fee Assistance for Professional Development

Further your professional development with these programs

UI Learning & Development offers fee assistance for professional development. Eligible employees may obtain financial assistance to attend a conference or workshop through the Mary Jo Small Staff Fellowship Award, receive financial support for an academic class through the Tuition Assistance Program, or receive complimentary admission to attend a for-fee UI Learning & Development-sponsored event.

Tuition Assistance Programs

Auditing University of Iowa Courses

All faculty and staff are eligible to audit (i.e., register for zero semester hours) one University of Iowa course per semester without being assessed tuition and mandatory fees for that course.

The Mary Jo Small Staff Fellowship Award

The Mary Jo Small Staff Fellowship Award Program allows professional and scientific or merit staff members to attend international, national, or regional conferences and workshops that will aid them in their work. The application is open all year, with two (2) award periods annually.

Professional Development Awards

UI Learning & Development has identified funds for special professional development awards during the spring and fall semesters. Staff members employed in a regular appointment, 50% time or greater are sent an email notification twice a year. Those staff members who submit a completed award application form by the deadline are eligible for the award, and will be selected through a lottery drawing. Awardees may use the award to cover the fee for Learning & Development courses during the designated semester. Only one application per person will be accepted.
