Professional and Scientific staff who are laid off can access networking, career planning, and support programs as soon as the layoff notice becomes effective, and after their jobs end.
The length of a layoff notice will be based on the current P&S employment status and on the individual’s length of regular and continuous university service at the time the notice is given to the employee. Compare layoff notice periods for different P&S statuses below:

If you don't know your P&S employment status, you may ask your supervisor, Human Resource Representative, or contact Compensation and Classification in University Human Resources. They will explain your notice period and the programs available to you as the layoff process progresses.

Probationary, Specified Term and Career Status
Layoff notice periods are 3 or 6 months, with access to programs during the notification period and for 12 months after termination.
At-Will Status
Layoff notice period of 3 months, with access to the same programs as Probationary, Specified Term and Career staff (please refer to the Probationary, Specified Term and Career Status section for explanation of access to programs).
