Benefits

If an individual terminates and is rehired in the same calendar month:

  • Their benefits remain unchanged, including medical, life, and long-term disability (LTD) insurance, as well as retirement plan contributions, and vacation and sick leave accrual.

If a new appointment is processed after the end of the month but is retroactive to the month of the termination:

  • Benefits will end on the last day of the month in which the termination occurred.
  • Despite benefits ending due to termination, once the new appointment is entered in the system, they will be automatically reinstated as of the first of the month following the date they ended, as follows:
    • Medical, life, and LTD insurances will be reinstated without a break in coverage.

If the gap between termination and rehire falls in different calendar months without a retroactive rehire to the month of termination:

  • Benefits will end on the last day of the month of termination. Benefits would begin again on the first of the month following the new date of hire.

Retirement plan contributions will continue on any paycheck with salary.

  • A new retirement plan election opportunity is only allowed if there has been a break in service exceeding 30 days.
