You have two health plan options:

Enrollment in the university health plan is optional.

Medical Coverage Election Instructions

To Waive Coverage:

  • Select Option 90 from the drop-down to waive UI Health Coverage.
  • You'll be prompted to answer a minimum value coverage question. You must answer it to avoid an error.
  • If you do not complete the waiver during open enrollment, you will default to no health coverage.
  • You must waive coverage each year during open enrollment. Failure to do so and answer the minimum value question will limit your university credits to only a maximum of $500 for the following year. (House Staff and Fellows are not eligible for University Credits)

To Elect Coverage:

  • Choose the option code that matches your desired plan (UISelect or UIChoice) and coverage level (e.g., Employee Only, Employee + Spouse).
  • The option code is shown in parentheses next to the price.
  • UISelect is only available to Iowa residents. If selected, you'll be asked to confirm your Iowa residency or that you will reside in Iowa within 30 days.
  • To add dependents to your selected coverage, you will check the box next to the name of the dependent that is listed under the "Eligible Dependents Not Covered". Select your recalculate button and they will pop up under the Dependents Covered section.

Additional Tip:

  • Use the Recalculate button to refresh your list of eligible dependents and beneficiaries if needed.
