Eligible employees who hold regular appointments of 50% or greater can donate their accrued vacation hours. Sick time cannot be donated in place of vacation.
How much time can be donated:
- A minimum donation of 8 hours preferred
- Total donation unlimited; prefer a total donation in 8-hour increments
- Donations are on a 1:1 ratio
- Donated hours are irrevocably pledged

If you would like to donate your time, please visit the link below to complete your donation of time.
After you have submitted your donation form
The donated leave is not taken from your vacation bank until it is needed.
- You will receive an email notification from Workflow that your donation has been approved when it is being used.
- It is possible that you will receive notification that part of your leave donation has been used.
Donations not used
If your hours are no longer needed, you will receive an email from the Workflow system that your donations were denied.
If you have donated hours and are retiring or terminating your position, please notify us at benefits@uiowa.edu so that we can void any unused hours that you pledged for donation.
