Biography

Jami Haberl joined as the executive director of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative in December 2014. Her passion for health and wellness started at a young age of 10, when her youngest sister was born with a rare metabolic disorder. She quickly learned that health is not a guarantee yet that there are factors that we can control. Trained in public health and healthcare administration, she has a unique background working on state and national initiatives including telemedicine, healthcare reimbursement, bioterrorism, disaster management and public-private partnerships.   

Jami is a recipient of the 2010 Business Record Forty under Forty, 2014 Community Connect Mentor Program, 2014 Des Moines University College of Health Sciences Alumni of the Year, 2016 Iowa State University College of Human Sciences Outstanding Young Professional and graduate of the 2018-19 Leadership Iowa.  Jami serves as the co-chair of the Capital Crossroads Wellness Capital, immediate past board president of Des Moines University Alumni Association and board member of Can Play.  

A native of Lohrville, Iowa, Jami received her undergraduate degree in community health education from Iowa State University, a master in public health and a master in healthcare administration from Des Moines University. Jami and her husband James Peterson reside in Des Moines, Iowa.
